Libraries exist with public funds, but private contributions allow libraries to flourish!

Our mission is to provide supplementary support to enhance Fairfax County Public Library programs and services for our community while reinforcing the need for continued and increased public support for the Library.

Since 1994, enormous strides have been made toward the enhancement of your library thanks to generosity of individuals, businesses and other organizations which allowed us to enhance the collection and support numerous successful initiatives. For example:

These are just a few of the many areas enhanced by the Foundation. Additionally, the library offers computer and internet access, academic and continuing education scholarships, research assistance, reading programs for all ages and much more.

I sincerely hope we can count on your continued generosity in the year ahead since considerably less than 1¢ of each local tax dollar is used for Fairfax County Public Library. Private donations such as yours are critically needed to improve the Library's ability to meet growing demands of 618,000 registered users. In the last year alone, Library customers made over 5 million visits to our branches and over 3.5 million visits to the internet site.

An increasing number of donors choose to honor or memorialize a special friend or family member by making a gift in their name. For instance, two patrons recognized their grandson's 5th birthday with a gift to purchase children's books. One family set up a memorial fund through the Foundation to honor the memory of their father, a bibliophile who enjoyed countless hours researching and reading books at Fairfax County Public Library.

Please know that the Library Foundation Board of Directors welcomes you to join us in our commitment to help Fairfax County Public Library maintain an edge of excellence well into the future. A generous donation to your library will make a positive difference for those who live, work or study in Fairfax County.

With warmest regards,

Joan M. Kane
Chair, Board of Directors
