The Fairfax Library Foundation's Friends Scholarship Fund benefits meritorious library staff, volunteers and individuals in pursuit of a Masters in Library Science degree. Academic scholarships are granted to future librarians to address the impending shortage of qualified applicants to fill vacancies left as many experienced librarians retire.
To maximize current staffing, the Friends Scholarship Fund also encourages continuing education among Fairfax County Public Library staff and volunteers by awarding scholarships that support education outside of a formal degree program. Awards are made to staff and volunteers to better serve the customers of the library system.
