Fairfax, VA - The Board of Directors of the Fairfax County Library Foundation, Inc. recently elected Joan M. Kane, president of Investment Planning Solutions, Inc. in Fairfax and financial advisor for Provident Investment Corporation, as their new chairman. Kane, who lives in Fairfax Station, VA, will serve a two-year term starting in July.
“I am extremely excited and honored to serve as chair of the Fairfax County Public Library Foundation,” says Kane. “The Foundation serves a vital role within our community by enhancing traditional funding sources for the Library fueling valuable programs, new resource materials, literacy outreach and technology tools. I look forward to working with the Board of Directors, as well as volunteers and staff, on these important initiatives in the year ahead.”
Other new officers elected to the board include Vice Chairman J.D. Morrisette of Fairfax, senior vice president of Interstate Worldwide Relocation; and Treasurer Bobbie Denny of Reston, director of the Fairfax Law Library. Susan Thorniley of Burke was elected to the board as both a new director and Secretary. She is Coordinator of Library Information Services for Fairfax County Public Schools.
The board also elected Sally Merten of George Mason University in Fairfax as a new director. She has volunteered for more than 20 years and is a trustee of WETA and chair of its development/marketing committee. She also serves on the board of GMU’s Fall for the Book Festival and other local organizations. Both Thorniley and Merten will serve three-year terms.
Outgoing Library Board Chair Stephanie Abbott of Reston will represent the Library Board on the Fairfax County Public Library Foundation Board of Directors for one year. Abbott is owner of Abbott Financial Services in Chantilly, VA.
