Alice Starr Mrs. Alice Starr is an Ex-Officio Member and the Immediate Past Chair of the Fairfax County Public Library Foundation. Mrs. Starr is the Vice President of Marketing & Communications for WEST*GROUP. Mrs. Starr also manages all WEST*GROUP charitable and political contributions. She participates on many community boards and in many community events on behalf of WEST*GROUP, chairing a number of fundraising efforts for non-profit groups each year. Since joining WEST*GROUP, she has helped to raise in excess of $7,000,000 for charitable organizations and political campaigns throughout the metropolitan area. Alice also manages WEST*GROUP's charitable contributions and corporate website, www.west-group.com. Mrs. Starr received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Skidmore College in 1971 and a Master of Education degree in College Administration from the University of Miami in 1974. Mrs. Starr previously worked as Director of Consumer Affairs for NVR, a national home builder headquartered in McLean. She formulated the firm's consumer affairs philosophy and program, created an NVR Bill of Rights and instituted customer service goals throughout the company. She was also a former Vice President of the Washington Airports Task Force. Mrs. Starr was elected President of the McLean Chamber of Commerce in June, 1995. The Chamber is an organization comprising over 10 members with a mission to promote business in McLean, where WEST*GATE and WEST*PARK Office Parks are located. Alice served as President of the McLean Chamber of Commerce from 1995 to 1997 and is Immediate Past President of Volunteer Fairfax. She is a Director of the Volunteer Center of Fairfax County, serving as Chairman of the 1996 Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards Program. She is also a Director and Chairman of Publicity for the McLean Project for the Arts and a Director and Chairman of Marketing for the Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run. In addition, she serves on the Air and Space Heritage Council and as a Director and Vice President of the Committee for Dulles. She is a former Trustee and former Chairman of Development for The Potomac School in McLean and is a Trustee and former President of the WEST*LYNCH Foundation. Mrs. Starr also serves on the Advisory Council for the Corporate Community Relations Council, the Medical Care for Children Project, and The Junior League of Northern Virginia. She is a former Honorary Director of the National Capital Lawyer's Auxiliary and served as Co-Chairman of the School for Contemporary Education's 25th Anniversary fundraising event. She is a member of the President's Circle, the National Leadership Gifts Committee and is an Alumni Admissions Representative for Skidmore College. In addition, she has served on the Sponsor Committee for Hospice of Northern Virginia and is currently the business liaison to The Women's Center of Fairfax County. Mrs. Starr has also served on the Finance Committees for several political candidates in Northern Virginia. In 1994, she was an Executive Chairman for the Boarder Baby Project Gala, helping raise funds for abandoned and abused infants. Alice has joined the Cardinal Bank, N.A., Board of Directors. Mrs. Starr is the former chair of the Fairfax County Public Library Foundation and is a Commissioner for the Virginia Commission for the Arts. She is also Director of the American Red Cross/National Capital Chapter. Mrs. Starr is a member of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks. She is also a member of Wolf Trap Associates and Women in Advertising and Marketing. She has published several articles and cover features in local and national real estate publications. A member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Mrs. Starr has been selected for Who Is Who of Emerging Leaders in America and Who Is Who is the Southeast. Mrs. Starr has been recognized by the McLean Chamber as "1999 Outstanding Business Citizen of the Year", by the Grand Masons with a "Community Builders Award", as "Lady Fairfax" for the Dranesville District in 1996, and by the Mclean Times in 1997 as the "McLean Citizen of the Year." Mrs. Starr was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. She has been married to Kenneth W. Starr since August 1970 and they have three children. Her hobbies include tennis, reading, traveling with family, and community work. |
