Sally Ormsby and Erica Hershler, contributors to Fairfax County Stories: 1607-2007, were interviewed for BookCast by Sam Clay, Fairfax County Public Library Director.
- Sally Ormsby is chair of the Fairfax County 2007 Community Citizen Planning Committee, which was formed in 2005 with the mission of promoting and publicizing existing events in the county that celebrate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Va.
- Erica Hershler is a part-time librarian and community outreach specialist at the Martha Washington Library. She wrote the chapter in Fairfax County Stories: 1607-2007 titled, “Historic Huntley: An Architectural Treasure.”
- Fairfax County Stories: 1607-2007 is the legacy book project the committee decided to produce. It is a 260-page anthology that includes 30 essays on Fairfax history, ranging from “Fairfax County at the Very Beginning” to “Desegregation in the 1960s.” Ormsby wrote a chapter in the book entitled, “The Honorable Martha V. Pennino.”
- The 27-member committee represents various community groups, organizations and regions throughout the county from the Fairfax County History Commission to the Native American community, Fairfax County Park Authority, Fairfax County Public Library, Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Wolf Trap, and more.
