Barbara O’Kane
First-time children’s author Barbara O’Kane was interviewed for BookCast by Fairfax County Public Library Director Sam Clay.
Barbara O’Kane is a scientist who has spent the last 30 years working with a thermal-imaging camera. Using her own photos, she has authored a children’s book, Seeing Heat, which explains the concepts of heat, light and energy to children.
In Seeing Heat, Lenny, a camera that sees heat, shows Jesse and Anna what their everyday world looks like through his heat-seeing eyes. They see the heat patterns of their own bodies, their puppy, a fancy sports car, the food in the refrigerator, and other everyday objects.
Seeing Heat was a finalist in Children's Non-Fiction, Children's Picture Book Non-fiction, and Children's Novelty and Gift Book in the 2008 USA Book News Contest.
