Stanley B. Greenberg

Stanley B Greenberg. Stanley B. Greenberg is Chairman and CEO of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research.

He has served as polling advisor to President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, Prime Minister Tony Blair, Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki, Prime Minister Ehud Barak, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada of Bolivia and their national campaigns.

Greenberg provides strategic advice and research for companies, organizations and campaigns trying to advance their issues amid shifting social currents.

Greenberg is author of the new book, The Two Americas: Our Current Political Deadlock and How to Break it, published by St. Martin's Press, described by James Carville as “the most important book on American politics in my memory ... maybe since 1960, the Making of the President.” Greenberg is also the author of Middle Class Dreams.

Together with Bill McInturff, Greenberg conducts bi-partisan surveys for National Public Radio on the main issues of the day.

His private sector clients include BP, Boeing, Monsanto, Comverse, Sun Microsystems, United HealthCare, the Business Roundtable, and the organizing committee for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

He advised the Nobel-prize winning campaign to ban land mines. And he directed the yearlong “People on War” project for the ICRC - a consultation with people in the principal war zones of the late 20th century. And he is a strategic consultant to the Climate Center of
the NRDC for its multi-year campaign on global warming.

Greenberg is co-founder of Democracy Corps -- a national research and strategic initiative to aid progressive organizations.

He also served as principal polling advisor to the Democratic Leadership Council during the formative years of change (1988-1994) for the Democratic Party.

The London Times notes that Greenberg is “widely considered the father of modern polling techniques,” while Esquire voted Greenberg one of the top twenty-one innovators, creators and thinkers of the 21st century. Paul Begala explains, “he is a narrative pollster - where others see just numbers, Stan sees stories.

One Republican pollster has said: “Stan Greenberg scares the hell out of me. He doesn't just have a finger on the people's pulse; he's got an IV injected into it. He's the best.” And the New York Times has written that Greenberg “often acts as a sort of people's truth
squad.”

Internationally, an Italian journal once said Greenberg is an “unrivaled international 'guru' in the field of electoral consultants and opinion pollsters,” and an Israeli paper referred to him as “the De Niro of all political consultants: a world star with legendary success.” The
New Republic writes that his foreign clients read like a “who's who in center-left world leaders.” When Ehud Barak won his campaign for Israeli prime minister in 1999, The New Yorker commented that this was either a “stunning upset for the country's Labor Party
or...just another Greenberg client taking his place as the head of state.”

Greenberg began his work as a pollster in the 1980s and early 1990s in a number of key U.S. campaigns: Senators Chris Dodd, Joe Lieberman and Jeff Bingaman; Governor Jim Florio and gubernatorial candidate and former Ambassador Andy Young; Vice President
Walter Mondale; and campaigns for the U.S. Congress, including Bob Carr, David Bonior and Rosa DeLauro.

Greenberg founded the company in 1980 after a decade of teaching at Yale University where he received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was educated at Miami University and Harvard University, where he received his Ph.D
