Presenting the 2007 Perspectives Series

Fairfax County Public Library Foundation is proud to underwrite the 2007 Perspectives Series, cosponsored by the Fairfax County Public Library and the Alden Theatre. All events in this series begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Alden Theatre of the McLean Community Center.Susan Orlean.

On Tuesday, March 20, Susan Orlean, author of The Orchid Thief, will present “My Encounters with Extraordinary People.” As a writer for The New Yorker and author of several books, Orlean has explored the lives of an enormous range of subjects from kids and kings to gospel choirs and an orchid thief, the subject of the 2002 film “Adaptation.” Books will be available for sale and signing courtesy of Barnes & Noble – Tysons Corner.

David Rakoff.On Tuesday, April 24, spend “A Evening With David Rakoff,” humorist, author and contributor to Public Radio International’s “This American Life.” Rakoff, considered one of today’s most witty and insightful writers, is the author of Don’t Get Too Comfortable. He’s also a frequent contributor to the The New York Times Magazine; a correspondent for Outside; and writer-at-large for GQ. Books will be available for sale and signing courtesy of Barnes & Noble – Tysons Corner.

Julian Bond.On Tuesday, May 8, Julian Bond, chair of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will present “Crossing the Color Line From Rhythm ‘n Blues to Rock ‘n Roll.” An activist, former Georgia state legislator, university professor and writer, Bond is the author of several books, a syndicated column, and has also narrated documentaries such as the acclaimed Public Broadcasting Service series “Eyes on the Prize.”

Free tickets will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. the evening of each event held at the Alden Theatre (limit two tickets per person). For directions, call 703-790-0123.
