Welcome Readers!
The Fairfax Library Foundation is a private, nonprofit corporation committed to providing supplementary support to the Fairfax County Public Library.
The Foundation, while reinforcing the need for continued and increased public support for the library, serves as a catalyst for attracting private funding from individuals, businesses, organizations, Friends groups and foundations to enhance library services for our community.
Since 1994, support like yours helped sponsor literacy outreach and much more, including:
- Live Homework Help on-line tutoring for students of all ages
- An All Fairfax Reads invitation for adults to read and discuss one book
- A memorable Perspectives Series showcasing renowned authors
- The Summer Reading Program attracting over 50,000 children and young adults
- BookCast conversations with Library Director, Sam Clay and interesting authors
Under the leadership of past chair, Joan M. Kane, the Foundation partnered with the Library and Signature Sponsor, Verizon to implement Art in the Pages, the community’s first ever public art sculpture project. Large open book statues, transformed into vibrant works of art, are displayed at library branches and other locations.
We need your help to meet the growing demands of our 500,000 registered library card holders. Last year, library customers made over 3 million visits to our branches and more than 3.7 million visits to the library Web site. I sincerely hope that we can count on your continued generosity since considerably less than 1¢ of each local tax dollar is used for the Fairfax County Public Library. Private cash donations, in-kind gifts, or memorial gifts are critically needed.
We’re asking you to continue your level of support and if you can give more, please do. If you have not yet contributed, please consider the Fairfax Library Foundation in your charitable gifting. There are no minimums and of course no maximums as all gifts are appreciated. We will recognize you in our annual report and on our Web site. However, the best reward is that feeling you get upon entering a library branch when you can say, “I am a member of the community of givers that helps maintain one of the finest systems in the country,” . . . and that’s a fact!
Thanks again for your ongoing support.
Best,
Alvah T. Beander
Chair, Board of Directors
