Martina is the Finance and Resource Manager for Fairfax Library Foundation. Her responsibilities include managing the Foundations accounts, grants, reconciliation, matching gifts, audit preparation, budget, contract payroll, volunteers and financial reporting. Prior to December 2005, Martina served as the Development Assistant for the Foundation for more than four years. She worked in the Acquisitions Department of the Library from Nov. 1995 to June 2001 and as a Library Aide at the Chantilly Regional Library, Dec. 1994 to Nov. 1995.

Ms. Murphy was the Assistant Librarian at the American Banker Newspaper in New York, NY in 1974 and also worked in the Manhattanville College Library, Purchase, NY from 1970 to 1974.

She has been a Girl Scout since 1959, holding numerous positions over the years in three different Councils. Currently, she is the volunteer Challenge Course Director for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, D.C.; has volunteered for two weeks at Ashgrove Adventure Summer Day Camp since 1979; and is a Troop leader of High School aged scouts. Past positions include delegate to two National Conferences; Assistant Association Chair; Service Unit Manager; member of the SHARE Task Force; member of the 10K Fun Run Task Force; School Organizer; member of the Volunteer Development Committee; Board of Directors; trainer; member, Nominating Committee.

Ms. Murphy also volunteered for the Virginia Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Alliance, Oakton, VA from 1977 to 1994. Positions included President, 1983 to 1987; member, Board of Directors, 1983 to 1994; secretary, Board of Directors, 1993 to 1994; member, Administration & Finance Committee, 1993 to 1995; Co-Chair State Steering Committee 1993 to 1994; Co-Chair Halloween Ghost Chase from 1988 to 1994.

She has also served the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts USA as an Assistant Scoutmaster from 1997 to 2000; on the Franklin Glen Homeowners Association Board of Directors from1990 to 1991; and as the Vice President of the Seasons Four Homeowners Association Board of Directors from 1980 to 1983.

Ms. Murphy received her B.A. in Philosophy from Manhattanville College, Purchase, NY in 1974. She became trained as a Course Supervisor, Ropes and Initiatives Courses in 2000 and as an Instructor in 1988 and 1993. She received her Wilderness First Responder Training in 2001. She has received Internal Library Awards for Maximizing Resources in 1996 and 2003.
